Stefanishina served with a new charge and is facing a pretrial detention hearing; she commented (Updated)
Former Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration and ex-Ambassador of Ukraine to the U.S. Olha Stefanishyna has been served with a new notice of suspicion. This was reported by the Anti-Corruption Action Center on August 5.
According to the Center, the suspicion was served by the National Anti-Corruption Bureau and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office. The High Anti-Corruption Court is currently considering the matter of imposing a pretrial restriction on Stefanyshyna. At the start of the hearing, the defense requested a closed session.
The specifics of the new suspicion and the legal classification applied to the former official's actions have not yet been disclosed. No official details from NABU, SAPO, or HACC are available at the time of publication.
The Anti-Corruption Action Center notes that Stefanishyna had previously received a suspicion in a NABU case that also involves former Minister of Justice Olena Lukash from Viktor Yanukovych's presidency. This case is currently being heard by the High Anti-Corruption Court.
After the previous suspicion, Stefanishyna continued her political career: she held ministerial positions, and later was appointed Ambassador of Ukraine to the U.S. Recently, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy dismissed her from that diplomatic post. Stefanyshyna herself attributed the dismissal to "personal reasons voiced earlier."
In 2025, hromadske journalists investigated how the property status of Stefanyshyna's family changed amid her career advancement. The authors drew attention to discrepancies between the official's asset declarations and information about her mother's real estate.
According to the investigation, Stefanishyna for a decade declared the right to use an apartment in Kyiv, which she associated with her mother, but journalists found no evidence proving her ownership of this property. At the same time, her declarations omitted another apartment of her mother, covering about 150 square meters and sold in 2018, as well as apartments purchased in 2022. Journalists also noted the transaction prices, which in their view might not have matched market levels.
Stefanyshyna is presumed innocent until her guilt is proven in accordance with the law and confirmed by a court's guilty verdict.
Stefanishyna Commented on the New Allegation
Commenting on reports of the new allegation, Stefanishyna stated that the law enforcement agencies’ procedural actions do not imply a finding of guilt, and she described the uproar surrounding the case as a “storm in a teacup.”
She also assured that she had previously provided journalists with documents regarding the real estate in question and emphasized that, after completing her diplomatic mission, she returned to Ukraine and is ready to defend her position through legal means.
