A massive attack on the energy infrastructure in the Odesa region left hundreds of thousands of families without power (Updated)
On the night of September 2, Russian forces launched a massive missile and drone strike on key main energy facilities in Odesa Oblast. Due to the attack, more than 350,000 households in Odesa district, including part of Odesa, were temporarily left without electricity. As of the day, power engineers have restored electricity to 177,000 homes.
The consequences of the attack have been recorded in several districts of the city. Operational and municipal services are working on the sites, and specialists continue to assess the extent of the damage. Operational headquarters have been set up for residents, where they can receive necessary assistance.
Among the damaged objects is a 24-story residential building, where apartments on several floors were destroyed. In adjacent buildings, windows were blown out and cars were damaged. Office buildings and two educational institutions also suffered destruction.
In particular, judging by the photo published by the State Emergency Service, a gas station was damaged.
Currently, eight people are known to have been injured, including one child. Two people have been hospitalized.
Energy facilities and DTEK site damaged
DTEK reported that the Russian attack targeted key main energy facilities of the region. Due to the damage, disruptions occurred in the operation of critical infrastructure and electric transport.
As soon as the security situation allowed, power engineers began restoring electricity supply. Currently, power has been restored to 177,000 households, and emergency restoration work continues.
In addition, during the attack, the production site "DTEK Odesa Grids" was damaged. The company's office premises and transport were damaged.
The Russian Ministry of Defense claimed that at night it allegedly hit four energy infrastructure facilities in Odesa and the region, which, according to the Russian side, ensured the operation of Ukrainian ports. The Ukrainian side has not yet confirmed the number of energy facilities hit or the claim about their connection to port operations.
