Russia continued strikes on Kyiv and the region: warehouses and university damaged (Updated)
Russian forces continued massive strikes on Kyiv and the region during the night and morning of September 2. In Kyiv Oblast, warehouse infrastructure was again damaged, and two people were injured. In the capital, Russian drones hit a residential building, a university, and, according to preliminary data, a warehouse building. The number of casualties in Kyiv has risen to seven.
In Bucha district of Kyiv Oblast, three warehouse premises were damaged as a result of the Russian attack. Fires and destruction occurred at the facilities, reported the State Emergency Service.
Russian forces struck the warehouse premises on the evening of September 1. Rescuers began extinguishing the fires, but during their work, the Russians twice re-attacked the same objects.
The work of the SES was also complicated by constant air-raid alerts. Finally, the fires in all three warehouse premises were extinguished.
On the morning of September 2, Kyiv Oblast Military Administration reported new consequences of Russian attacks. In Bucha district, a man received shrapnel wounds to the thigh, and in Brovary district, a woman - fragmentation wounds to the arm and shoulder. Both are receiving medical assistance.
Also in Bucha district, a fire broke out in warehouse premises and a private house was damaged. Another private house was damaged in Brovary district, and a warehouse building in Boryspil district.
New hits in Kyiv
During the morning, Russian drones repeatedly attacked Kyiv. In Shevchenkivskyi district, a UAV hit a six-story residential building. The strike caused a fire and partial destruction of the building. A three-story building also caught fire nearby.
In the same district, the premises of one of the medical facilities were damaged - some windows were blown out. According to preliminary data, there are no casualties among patients and staff of the medical facility.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported that Russian "Shaheds" also hit one of Kyiv's universities directly during classes. At the time of the attack, 160 students were in a shelter.
In Holosiivskyi district, a fire broke out in an open area earlier as a result of falling UAV debris. Later, Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported another incident in this district - preliminarily, a Russian drone hit a warehouse building. Emergency services were dispatched to the site.
Local Telegram channels report that the attacked warehouse building may belong to FedEx. This information has not yet been officially confirmed by city authorities, rescuers, or the company itself.
As of the latest data, as a result of the attacks on September 2, seven people were injured in Kyiv. Five of them were hospitalized.
Russia used 174 drones
According to the Air Force, on the night of September 2, Russia attacked Ukraine with two Iskander-M ballistic missiles, two Kh-59/69 guided air missiles, and 174 attack UAVs of the Shahed type, S8000 "Banderol", "Herbera" and drones of other types. About half of the Shaheds used were jet-powered.
The main directions of the strike were Odesa Oblast and Kyiv Oblast. Defense forces shot down or suppressed 141 aerial targets: three S8000 "Banderol" and 138 drones of various types.
The Air Force recorded hits of missiles and attack UAVs at 16 locations, and falling of downed targets or their debris at four more.
The Russian Defense Ministry earlier claimed that one of the targets of the strikes in Kyiv Oblast was allegedly the logistics center "Chayky" of the company "Alfa Development Group". The Russian department asserted that dual-use goods and drone components were stored there.
Ukrainian official sources have not confirmed the name of the attacked logistics facility or the Russian side's claims about the nature of the cargo.
