The number of registered unemployed in Germany in July 2026 rose to 3,007 million people. The indicator surpassed the three-million mark again after staying below this level for two months.

Compared to June, the number of unemployed increased by 71 thousand people. Year-on-year - by 28 thousand. The unemployment rate rose immediately by 0.2 percentage points - to 6.4%.

Taking into account seasonal fluctuations, the number of people without work increased by 6 thousand. This indicates that the deterioration is due not only to the traditional summer increase in unemployment.

At the same time, a significant part of the July surge is seasonal. During this period, the school year, vocational training, and some fixed-term employment contracts come to an end. Therefore, young people temporarily register as unemployed until their studies or a new job begin.

In June, there were 2,936 million unemployed in Germany, and the unemployment rate was 6.2%. The Federal Employment Agency noted at that time that the spring recovery of the labour market was weak, and the number of employees for whom social security contributions are paid continued to decrease.

Demand by enterprises for new employees remains relatively low. The labour market is under pressure from weak economic activity, job cuts in industry, and caution on the part of companies when hiring personnel.
