Bucharest counts on Kyiv’s assistance in the energy sector

Romanian Foreign Minister Oana Țoiu had a telephone conversation with her Ukrainian counterpart Andrii Sybiha. The main topic of the talks was the energy situation in Romania and possible support from Ukraine.

The head of Romanian diplomacy reported the conversation on social network X. She did not disclose what kind of assistance Kyiv is ready to provide, nor did she name the possible volumes and timelines of its provision.

The parties discussed coordination between the relevant institutions of the two countries and further interaction to strengthen the energy resilience of the region.

Ukraine and Romania have previously called the development of energy infrastructure one of the priorities of their strategic partnership. In particular, the countries discussed the construction of new interstate connections and the expansion of the regional energy network.

Kyiv also proposes using the Ukrainian gas transmission system and underground storage facilities within the framework of developing regional gas supply routes. One such project is the vertical gas corridor connecting Greece, Bulgaria, Romania, Moldova, and Ukraine.

In addition to energy, Țoiu and Sybiha regularly discuss the security of the Black Sea region, the protection of critical infrastructure, and the consequences of Russian attacks. During their previous conversation on July 6, the parties agreed to develop practical bilateral projects and maintain close coordination.

The causes of the current energy crisis in Romania and the specific solutions agreed upon during the conversation have not yet been clarified.
