Paris deploys reinforcements on border with Spain

France has tightened controls on the border with Spain amid a migration crisis in the Spanish enclave of Ceuta. Paris sent additional mobile units and drones to monitor the border areas.

This was reported by French President Emmanuel Macron on social network X.

According to him, the Ministry of the Interior has been tasked with stepping up checks using four mobile units. Unmanned aerial vehicles were also brought in for the operation.

Macron said he spoke with the Spanish government, expressed solidarity and offered France's help. The interior ministers of the two countries continue to coordinate actions and monitor the evolving situation.

The French president also welcomed Spain's cooperation with Morocco, which, according to his data, has already allowed the return of over 40,000 migrants from Ceuta to Morocco.

Macron reminded that the special status of Ceuta does not grant people there the right to move freely to mainland Spain and other countries in the Schengen Area.

The French head of state called on European countries to show solidarity and work together to enforce rules on returning undocumented migrants, as well as protect the European Union's external borders.
