Central Europe hit by heatwave, almost +40 degrees forecast

The new week in Central Europe will start with a sharp intensification of the heatwave. In Poland, the Czech Republic, and the southern regions of Germany, air temperatures will locally approach +40, while meteorologists warn of thunderstorms and heavy rainfall.

In Poland, the heatwave will begin spreading from the south of the country on Monday, 3 August. In the following days, temperatures above +30 are expected in most regions. On Wednesday, 5 August, thermometers could rise to +38.

Even higher temperatures are forecast in the Czech Republic. According to the Czech Hydrometeorological Institute, temperatures will locally reach +39 during the week. Some cooling is expected at the end of the week, but daytime highs will still remain around +30.

The hot weather in the Czech Republic will be accompanied by local downpours and thunderstorms, which can occur almost daily. The forecast is for mostly fair weather but with short-term precipitation in some areas.

In Germany, the highest temperatures are expected in the south. In Bavaria, temperatures could rise to +38 this week. The German weather service also predicts plenty of sunshine and isolated thunderstorms with heavy downpours.

It will be hottest in the inland areas of the federal state, while temperatures in mountainous areas will be lower. The forecast of up to +38 primarily applies to Bavaria, and not to the whole of Germany.
