New beating of Ukrainians investigated in Poland: authorities stated preliminary cause of conflict

Polish police are investigating the circumstances of an attack on three Ukrainian citizens in the town of Kożuchów, Lubusz Voivodeship. Law enforcement officers are searching for those involved in the incident and have already questioned one person.

Press officer of the Voivodeship Police in Gorzów Wielkopolski, Maciej Kimet, reported that, according to preliminary information, the conflict arose due to loud music from a car and disturbance of night peace.

According to the police version, after a verbal dispute, the attackers beat one Ukrainian citizen, and then two more people. After that, they fled the scene.

Law enforcement continue to clarify the exact course of the conflict and are taking measures to identify and detain the attackers. The final motives for their actions have not yet been determined.

What is known about the attack

The incident occurred on the evening of August 1 on the territory of a hostel where mostly Ukrainian citizens live. As a result of the attack, two men and a woman were injured. One of the victims was taken to hospital.

Police and medics arrived at the scene after a call. The next day, the victims gave testimony, and law enforcement documented their injuries.

Ukrainians also informed the investigators about a video surveillance camera on a neighboring building that may have recorded the moment of the attack.

How did the Ukrainian consulate react?

The Consulate General of Ukraine in Wrocław stated that it is closely monitoring the investigation and is in contact with the victims and Polish competent authorities.

"The Consulate General of Ukraine resolutely condemns any manifestations of hatred, violence and aggression", the statement reads.

Diplomats are ready to provide the victims with the necessary consular assistance within the scope of their powers.

Ukrainians in Poland were urged to remain calm, not to give in to possible provocations, and in case of unlawful actions, to immediately contact the police and the Consulate General.
