Russia intensified attacks on ports and ships in Ukraine, over a hundred strikes in a month
Russian forces are increasingly attacking Ukraine's transport and port infrastructure, as well as civilian fleet. In July alone, 67 strikes on seaport facilities and 57 attacks on ships were recorded.
This was reported by the Ministry of Development of Communities and Territories of Ukraine after the latest Russian shelling of Odessa region on August 3.
During the attack, transport infrastructure facilities were hit, as well as civilian ships in ports of Greater Odessa and the Danube region. According to updated data, ten people were injured. They are receiving necessary medical assistance, and the aftermath of the strikes is being eliminated at the sites.
The number of attacks on ports is increasing
According to the ministry, during the first days of August Russia has already carried out:
- five attacks on seaport facilities;
- three attacks on civilian ships that were in ports;
- two attacks on ships in the Ukrainian Sea Corridor.
In July, Russian forces attacked seaport facilities 67 times. Another 35 strikes targeted civilian ships in ports, and 22 targeted ships in the Ukrainian Sea Corridor.
The ministry noted that Russia strikes not only ships conducting voyages or cargo operations. Attacks also target civilian vessels that remain at berths or anchorages after previous damage.
Ukrainian authorities view these strikes as a deliberate campaign aimed at disrupting port operations, intimidating international shipowners, and undermining confidence in the safety of civilian navigation.
Systematic shelling of Ukrainian ports and ships also creates risks for international logistics, global trade and global food security.
As reported by CURRENT Ukraine, today authorities reported a Russian attack on transport infrastructure in Odessa region. According to monitoring channels, it may refer to the bridge in Zatoka, which is of strategic importance and has already been repeatedly targeted by Russian strikes.
