Klymenko sets initial tasks as Secretary of the NSDC

Newly appointed Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Ihor Klymenko named coordination of law enforcement agencies, control over implementation of decisions, and threat forecasting as his top priorities.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy appointed Klymenko as NSDC Secretary on August 3. The relevant decree No. 694/2026 has been published on the head of state's website. Klymenko previously headed the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine.

According to the NSDC Secretary, one of the main areas of focus will be ensuring coordinated work of all components of the security and defense sector. This means clear coordination and prompt information exchange between agencies.

Another task Klymenko mentioned is auditing the implementation of previously adopted NSDC decisions. The Council's staff should systematically monitor so that these decisions are implemented fully and on time, not just remain on paper.

Special attention is expected to be given to strategic forecasting. The NSDC will analyze emerging risks, prevent new threats, and coordinate operational response to them.

Among the key areas, Klymenko listed the situation on the front line, protection of critical infrastructure and cyberspace, as well as countering disinformation.

He stressed that the state's resilience depends on the daily coordinated work of every agency and specialist.

"We are working toward a single result — Ukraine's security and the protection of people," — Klymenko stated.
