Olga Stefanishina stated that on her own initiative she decided to resign from the powers of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to the United States. She cited personal circumstances as the reason.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on August 3 signed a decree on the dismissal of Stefanishina from the position of head of the Ukrainian embassy in Washington.

The diplomat emphasized that she independently made the decision to resign and counts on the understanding and support of the president.

“To represent Ukraine in Washington at a time when it is waging a war for its existence was the greatest honor of my life,” — wrote Stefanishina.

According to her, the main points of the plan with which she came to the USA were fulfilled. Among the results of her work, Stefanishina named an increase in supplies of American weapons and the preservation of support for Ukraine during a period of changing political situation in Washington.

She also stated that the Ukrainian side managed to secure support in American legislation and expand cooperation in the sphere of investments and technology.

In Stefanishina’s assessment, Ukraine is gradually changing its role in relations with the USA — from a country that is provided with aid, to a state that is invested in and from which technology is bought.

The former ambassador also promised to separately and publicly answer questions that have recently been discussed in the media. Stefanishina did not specify which exactly publications she meant.

She thanked the embassy staff, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and all partners with whom she worked, and stated that she will continue to work for Ukraine.

Stefanishina headed the Ukrainian Embassy in the USA since August 2025. Previously, she held the positions of Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration and Minister of Justice.
