Russian Strikes Damage Civilian Infrastructure and Cause Fires in Four Regions (Updated)
On the evening of August 3 and the night of August 4, Russian troops attacked the Sumy, Dnipropetrovsk, Mykolaiv, and Chernihiv regions. The strikes resulted in fatalities, and damaged residential buildings, critical infrastructure, warehouses, and tanks with petroleum products.
In Sumy, six guided aerial bombs hit civilian infrastructure in the city. Residential buildings and non-residential structures were damaged and destroyed. Inspections and cleanup are ongoing at the sites.
According to air defense forces, two more Russian aerial bombs were shot down on approach to populated areas.
The strike on Sumy killed two girls, aged five and ten, and an elderly woman. Rescuers pulled the children’s bodies from under the rubble of a house. Four others sought medical help due to acute stress reactions.
In a suburb of Dnipro, a drone attack caused a large-scale fire at food storage warehouses. Information on possible casualties is being verified. As of the morning, regional authorities had not provided additional details on the extent of the damage.
In the Halytsynove community of the Mykolaiv region, a Shahed-type drone strike caused a fire at a warehouse facility. According to the regional military administration, there were no casualties.
On the evening of August 3, Russian troops also attacked sites in the Chernihiv region. In the Pryluky district, two fuel tankers and five tanks for transporting petroleum products caught fire after the strike. According to preliminary data from the State Emergency Service, there were no casualties.
Head of the Chernihiv Regional Military Administration, Viacheslav Chaus, reported that during the day the region was massively attacked by jet-powered drones and so-called "Banderoil" — hybrids of a cruise missile and a drone. According to him, they can reach speeds of up to 650 km/h, making interception more difficult.
The main targets of the strikes were Chernihiv, Pryluky, and Novhorod-Siverskyi. Russian troops attacked, among other things, logistics companies and critical infrastructure objects.
