Ukraine's economy returned to growth in the second quarter after a downturn
In the second quarter of 2026, Ukraine's real gross domestic product grew by 0.6% compared to the same period last year. In the first quarter, the economy contracted by 0.6% year-over-year. This is according to an operational estimate by the State Statistics Service of Ukraine.
Compared to the first quarter of 2026, real GDP increased by 0.4%, taking into account seasonal factors.
Thus, the Ukrainian economy returned to growth after a downturn at the beginning of the year. However, the pace remains lower than in the second half of 2025.
According to the State Statistics Service, in the third quarter of 2025, real GDP grew by 2.4% year-over-year, and in the fourth quarter — by 2.8%. In the first quarter of 2026, the indicator decreased by 0.6%, after which it became positive again in the second quarter.
The operational estimate is based on preliminary statistical information on the growth or decline rates of production by main types of economic activity.
The State Statistics Service plans to release preliminary, more detailed data on Ukraine's GDP for the second quarter of 2026 in September.
