The United States has expanded sanctions against Russian military structures

The United States has imposed two-year sanctions against a number of structures of the Russian army, companies, and citizens of the Russian Federation. The grounds are their activities, which fall under the US non-proliferation law regarding Iran, North Korea, and Syria.

The corresponding notification from the US Department of State was published in the Federal Register. The restrictions came into effect on July 24, 2026, and will remain in force for two years, unless the US Secretary of State decides otherwise.

The following Russian military structures were subject to sanctions:

  • Russian Ground Forces;
  • Main Missile and Artillery Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation;
  • Directorate for Advanced Interservice Research and Special Projects of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation;
  • 1061st Center for Material and Technical Support.

Restrictions were also imposed against Russian companies Gedion Alpha Company LLC and International Invest Company. Five citizens of the Russian Federation were added to the sanctions list: Aleksandr Prikhodko, Andrey Gusev, Andrey Kosolapov, Vladislav Morozik, and Sergey Tsibarev.

US government agencies are prohibited from purchasing goods, technologies, and services from sanctioned individuals and organizations or entering into corresponding contracts with them. They will also not be able to receive assistance from the US government or participate in US assistance programs.

In addition, the US is stopping the sale of military products, defense services, and equipment to these individuals and structures. They will not be issued new export licenses, and existing permits will be suspended.

The law provides for sanctions for transferring to Iran, North Korea, or Syria or purchasing from these countries controlled goods, services, and technologies. This refers, in particular, to products that could contribute to the creation of weapons of mass destruction, ballistic or cruise missiles.
