A Russian drone deliberately pursued and attacked a man selling vegetables in Kherson. The drone exploded next to him, injuring the civilian, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky reported on August 4.

The head of state drew attention to the published video of the attack, calling the incident another episode of Russian hunting on peaceful residents of the city. According to the president, the drone operator tracked the man and intentionally directed the drone to the place where he was.

Zelensky also stated that Russian sources admitted involvement in the strike and publicly demonstrated the attack. The president called this evidence that attacks on civilians are carried out intentionally and are presented by the Russian side as a reason for pride.

According to the head of state, such attacks in Kherson occur daily. Russian military personnel use drones to pursue people who are on the streets, moving through the city or going about their ordinary daily activities.

The president called on the international community to pay attention to every such case and to increase pressure on Russia. He emphasized that without reducing Russian military potential and creating real security guarantees, it is impossible to achieve lasting peace.

Zelensky noted that Moscow should be forced to think about ending the war, rather than further increasing the range and capabilities of its drones. To that end, he said, it is necessary to continue supporting Ukraine and strengthening the protection of the civilian population.

The head of state also warned that the threat posed by Russia concerns not only Ukraine. He called for cooperation from Finland, Kazakhstan, the Baltic countries, Poland, the states of the South Caucasus, Romania, and Moldova.

According to Zelensky, joint actions by these states and other international partners should lead to the creation of effective security guarantees and an end to the Russian war.

Kherson and the region’s settlements are regularly targeted by Russian drone attacks. Ukrainian authorities have repeatedly reported targeted strikes on civilian vehicles, public transport, and people on the streets.
