NBU lowered dollar and euro exchange rates on August 5
On Wednesday, August 5, the National Bank set the following official exchange rates: – US dollar – 44.7488 UAH (-0.0388 UAH compared to the official exchange rate on Tuesday, August 4); – euro – 51.5372 UAH (-0.1051 UAH compared to the official exchange rate on Tuesday, August 4).
The rates were set at 4:00 p.m. on August 4 and reflect the following trends:
1. Until 11:20 a.m., trading on the interbank foreign exchange market took place in a narrow range of 44.80–44.85 UAH. Therefore, the average transaction price at 12:00 p.m. was 44.8149 UAH – 8 kopecks more than on Monday. After 12:00 p.m., the interbank trend reversed downward once again under pressure from exporters' sales, joined by the National Bank. Non-cash dollar quotations began to decline and by the close of trading fell to 44.55 UAH on the bid side and 44.65 UAH on the offer side. In a few hours, the non-cash dollar cheapened by 30 kopecks on the buy side. As a result, the average transaction price also decreased by the end of the trading. Therefore, the National Bank lowered the official dollar exchange rate for Wednesday, August 5, by almost 4 kopecks.
2. The euro on the international FOREX market fell by 59 points on Monday – from 1.1559 to 1.1500 dollars. On Tuesday, after slight fluctuations, the euro price moved upward. At the fixing time, the euro was sold at 1.1517 – 13.5 points lower than on Monday (1.15305 dollars). In addition, the official dollar exchange rate decreased. That is why the National Bank also lowered the official euro exchange rate by 10.5 kopecks.
The cash dollar exchange rate accelerated its decline today, which began last week. While on Monday evening the dollar was sold at 44.76–44.77 UAH, today its price dropped to 44.67 UAH. In Lviv, the dollar fell by 7 kopecks, in Dnipro by 8, in Odesa by 13, and in Kharkiv by as much as 18 kopecks. The sharp decline caught some cash market operators off guard, as they did not expect such a development of events.
