The European Union will direct €1.4 billion, obtained from the income of frozen Russian assets, to Ukraine. Ukraine's Prime Minister Serhiy Koretskyi reported this.

According to him, the funds will be used to strengthen Ukraine's defense and the resilience of the state.

Koretskyi thanked European partners for their principled stance and emphasized that the response to Russian attacks should be further strengthening of Ukraine.

It concerns not the assets of the Central Bank of Russia themselves, but the income they generate while under sanctions. Russian assets remain frozen in European depositories.

According to the European Commission, the €1.4 billion sum was formed from interest accumulated in the second half of 2025. This is the fourth transfer of income from blocked assets of the Russian Central Bank.

Approximately 95% of the funds should be directed through the Mechanism for Credit Cooperation with Ukraine. It helps repay loans provided by the European Union and G7 countries. Another 5% will be transferred through the European Peace Facility to finance Ukraine's urgent defense needs.

Earlier, the European Union already directed over €3 billion of income from Russian assets to military assistance for Ukraine. As of the end of June, total support from such proceeds amounted to €3.8 billion.
