A major oil refinery caught fire in Yaroslavl after a massive attack (Updated)
On the night of August 6, the Yaroslavl region of Russia experienced its most massive drone attack. Governor Mikhail Yevrayev stated that air defense and electronic warfare forces allegedly neutralized 88 drones. According to him, there were no dead or injured.
After the explosions, Yaroslavl residents published footage showing two columns of thick smoke. OSINT analyst Astra geolocated one of the fire sources on the territory of the Slavneft-YANOS oil refinery. At the time of publication, the location of the second fire could not be determined.
The local authorities did not directly report a fire at the refinery. Yevrayev stated that as a result of the attack, a private house burned down, windows were shattered in several high-rise buildings, and cars were damaged. The exit from Yaroslavl toward Moscow remained closed due to the removal of drone debris.
Slavneft-YANOS is one of the largest oil refining enterprises in Russia, processing about 15 million tons of oil per year. The plant produces gasoline, diesel and jet fuel, lubricants, bitumen, liquefied gas, and other petroleum products.
According to Astra, the enterprise has already been attacked several times during 2026. The outlet recorded previous fires at the plant in March, April, May, and July.
That same night, the aftermath of the attack was reported in the Tver Region. Governor Vitaly Korolev stated that debris from the drone had damaged the facade of the Wildberries logistics complex. In the Kalininsky District, several outbuildings in a gardening community were also damaged. According to local authorities, no one was injured. Earlier, based on published footage, Astra geolocated a major fire in a residential area in the village of Palkino, which borders Tver. The publication determined that a residential building or structures on a private plot were on fire. Authorities did not specify whether this was one of the structures damaged by the debris.
The Russian Ministry of Defense stated that overnight, air defense forces allegedly shot down 605 Ukrainian drones over 17 regions, the Moscow region, the Krasnodar Krai, occupied Crimea, as well as over the Black and Azov Seas. There is no independent confirmation of the reported number of drones.
