Demand puts pressure on the hryvnia: dollar rises, NBU does not hinder growth
On Thursday, August 6, active demand for non-cash currency is recorded on the interbank foreign exchange market. After the start of trading, dollar quotes went up and by the time of writing this article rose to UAH 44.80 on the bid and UAH 44.82 on the offer.
The National Bank takes part in trading, however, according to information from the portal “Kurs Ukrainy”, it sells little and does not prevent the growth of quotes.
The euro on the interbank foreign exchange market of Ukraine on Thursday trades in the range of UAH 51.55–51.71 on the bid – on average 6 kopiyok higher than yesterday. On the international FOREX market today, a slight correction of the euro is observed after it failed to rise above the level of 1.1560 dollars. However, due to the fact that non-cash dollar in Ukraine became more expensive, the price of euro also rose.
Prices for cash dollar froze after yesterday’s slight increase. Both yesterday and today by lunchtime, retail exchange points in Kyiv sell dollar at UAH 44.72. In Khmelnytskyi, Odesa, and Poltava, dollar is sold at UAH 44.80, and in Chernihiv – at UAH 44.85.
By 12:30 p.m., Ukrainian banks sell dollar at prices ranging from UAH 44.75 at Bank Lviv to UAH 45.20 at Zaporizhia’s Metabank. As for the euro, at the moment the cheapest is available at some branches of Bank Lviv in western Ukraine at UAH 51.62.
Oil prices demonstrate stability for the second consecutive day. The barrel of popular Brent brand is currently trading in the range of USD 78.90–80.33 per barrel.
On crypto exchanges, the prices of major cryptocurrencies have increased slightly again on Thursday. Bitcoin on the most popular crypto exchange Binance this morning rose to USD 64,999 per coin, and Ethereum – to USD 1,920.51 per coin. At present, bitcoin is sold at USD 64,680–64,700, and Ethereum – at USD 1,905–1,910 per coin.
