Ukraine plans to create its own anti-ballistic system by 2027 - Zelenskyy

Ukraine expects to achieve the necessary results in the development of its own ballistic missiles and a new system of defense against ballistic threats in 2026-2027. This was reported by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy after a special meeting.

The participants discussed the status of tasks within the anti-ballistic program FREYJA, existing needs, and already implemented stages. For components of the program that require acceleration, a work schedule and responsible persons were determined.

The project involves the National Security and Defense Council, the government, the Ministry of Defense, the Foreign Intelligence Service, the Air Force Command, the Brave1 team, and Ukrainian defense enterprises.

According to Zelenskyy, the creation of its own ballistic weapons and anti-ballistic system is a technologically complex task that only a few states have managed to accomplish. The President stated that Ukraine has the necessary scientific base, competencies, and manufacturers that have already reached the required technological level.

Among the key issues, the meeting participants named access to critically important components. Separately, the expansion of technological cooperation with partners and the localization of production in Ukraine were discussed.

The FREYJA program envisages the creation of an integrated European system for countering ballistic missiles. In July, Ukraine, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden, and the United Kingdom announced the creation of the Anti-Ballistic Coalition. Other states may also join it.

Zelenskyy also reported on work with partners on obtaining PAC-2 and PAC-3 missiles for Patriot systems. The President expects the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Defense to achieve concrete results in negotiations with states with which deliveries have already been discussed.
