UN Secretary-General Condemns Strikes on Both Ukraine and Russia

United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres strongly condemned the latest massive missile and drone strikes by Russian forces on Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities. According to the organization, the attacks resulted in dozens of civilian casualties and significant damage to civilian infrastructure.

At the same time, Guterres condemned the recent Ukrainian drone attacks on several regions of Russia, which reportedly also caused civilian casualties and damage to civilian objects.

The UN described the latest strikes as part of a dangerous trend of intensifying attacks on populated areas. The organization recorded a record increase in civilian casualties and large-scale destruction of residential and other civilian infrastructure in Ukraine. Such consequences are increasingly being recorded on Russian territory as well.

"Attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure are a clear violation of international humanitarian law and must stop immediately," the statement said.

The UN Secretary-General also expressed concern over the increased threats to shipping in the Black and Azov Seas and the possible consequences for global food security. He called for ensuring freedom of navigation in accordance with international law and the protection of civilian ports and maritime infrastructure.

Guterres reiterated his call for urgent de-escalation, a full, immediate, and unconditional ceasefire, and the achievement of a just and lasting peace in line with the UN Charter and the organization's resolutions.
