ChatGPT removes limits on text chats

OpenAI is preparing a significant expansion of ChatGPT capabilities for users on Free and Go plans. As early as next week, they will be able to have an unlimited number of regular text chats with the service.

The change applies only to text communication. Separate limits will remain for messages with files and images, voice mode, and image generation.

Simultaneously, OpenAI is moving Free and Go users to GPT-5.6 Luna. The new model will be the default for these plans, replacing GPT-5.5. Luna is designed for fast execution of high-volume day-to-day tasks at lower computational costs.

Next week, users will also get a Think button. It will allow engaging a more powerful reasoning mode for complex queries when a standard quick answer is insufficient.

The update also affects Plus and Pro subscribers. For them, OpenAI is launching an improved version of GPT-5.6 Sol, which is expected to deliver more accurate and concise answers. The company particularly promises to reduce errors in prompts related to dates, numbers, rules, sources, and assumptions.

Additionally, paying users will receive a slider to adjust how much time the model spends contemplating the answer. The changes apply to the regular ChatGPT mode. GPT-5.6 Sol versions working in Work and Codex will remain unchanged.

According to OpenAI's internal tests, GPT-5.6 Luna produces 62% fewer factual errors than GPT-5.5 Instant. For GPT-5.6 Sol, that figure is 68%. The company has not yet published independent verification of these results.
