German exports set a historical record
In June, Germany exported goods worth €139.3 billion - the highest monthly figure since the relevant statistics began to be kept.
According to preliminary data from the Federal Statistical Office of Germany, taking calendar and seasonal factors into account, exports increased by 0.9% compared to May. Year-on-year growth was 6.6%.
The new figure exceeded the previous record set in September 2022, when German exports reached €139.1 billion. Shipments of goods abroad have been rising for the fifth consecutive month, supporting the country's economy.
Meanwhile, imports grew faster than exports. In June, Germany imported goods worth €123.9 billion - 4.4% more than in May and 8.4% more than a year earlier.
Due to the faster growth of imports, the foreign trade surplus shrank from €19.3 billion in May to €15.4 billion in June.
Exports to European Union countries increased by 1.3% over the month, while shipments to non-EU countries rose by only 0.3%.
The most notable decline was in exports to the USA - down 14.2%. Despite this, the United States remained the largest single market for German goods, with a figure of €12.1 billion.
Exports to China decreased by 0.3%, to €6.2 billion. In contrast, imports of Chinese goods grew by 9.1% and reached €16.5 billion.
