Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan agree on joint defence

Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Pakistan signed the Mecca Agreement on joint defence, which provides for a collective response to external aggression.

According to the terms of the document, an armed attack on one of the three states will be considered an attack on all parties to the agreement. The pact also provides for the strengthening of collective deterrence and the expansion of cooperation in the defence sphere.

The agreement was signed by Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Saudi Arabia Mohammed bin Salman, President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Prime Minister of Pakistan Shehbaz Sharif.

The ceremony took place on 7 August during the joint defence summit at the Al-Safa Palace in Mecca. Before signing the document, the leaders discussed relations between the countries and issues of common interest.

The parties stated that the agreement should strengthen their collective security and contribute to stability in the region. Detailed mechanisms for the implementation of the pact, including the procedure for providing military assistance, have not yet been disclosed.

In September 2025, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan already concluded a bilateral mutual defence agreement. The new document expands the format of cooperation by bringing Turkey into it.
