On the morning of August 10, Russian Tatarstan was subjected to a massive drone attack. Residents of Nizhnekamsk and Chistopol reported a large number of UAVs in the sky, and later thick smoke appeared in the area of the industrial zone of Nizhnekamsk.

According to the results of OSINT analysis by Astra, the likely target of the attack was the Nizhnekamskneftekhim enterprise, which belongs to the Russian holding Sibur.

The monitoring channel Exilenova+ published a video of the drone flights and smoke over the city. Local residents also reported explosions, the operation of electronic warfare assets, and a fire in the area of oil refining enterprises.

According to unconfirmed information from the channel, one of the drones, after being affected by Russian electronic warfare assets, could have fallen on the territory of a local market. There is currently no independent confirmation of this data.

Later, the press service of the head of Tatarstan, Rustam Minnikhanov, stated that drones attacked industrial and civilian facilities in Nizhnekamsk. Russian authorities also reported casualties, but did not specify their number or which enterprises were damaged.

Nizhnekamskneftekhim is one of the largest petrochemical complexes in Europe. The enterprise processes raw materials received from TAIF-NK and TANECO, and produces synthetic rubbers, plastics, and ethylene.

The industrial zone of Nizhnekamsk also houses the TANECO refinery, owned by Tatneft, and the TAIF-NK complex. It is impossible to reliably determine from the published footage which particular enterprise's territory the fire occurred on.

This industrial hub has already been attacked multiple times. In June, Astra confirmed, using OSINT, a strike on the TANECO refinery. On the same day, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported hits on TANECO and the neighboring TAIF-NK enterprise.

In early July, a drone filmed by local residents shortly before explosions in the industrial zone likely fell on the territory of TAIF-NK.

During the attack, a drone hazard alert was declared in Tatarstan.

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine confirmed the strike and stated that the morning attack on Nizhnekamsk targeted the Tatneft oil refinery (TANECO JSC). A fire was reported at the facility.
