Moldova may hand over 20 locomotives to Ukraine

Moldova is preparing proposals for the possible provision of 20 locomotives to Ukraine. This was announced by Minister of Community and Territorial Development of Ukraine Mykola Kalashnyk following talks with Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development of Moldova Vladimir Bolea.

Transfer of rolling stock became one of the topics of bilateral cooperation in the railway sector. Ukraine and Moldova are also working on additional routes for transporting Ukrainian goods through Moldovan territory to the Romanian port of Constanta.

According to Kalashnyk, the parties need to ensure competitive shipping costs. This should make transit through Moldova more attractive for Ukrainian exporters and create an additional route to Romania's maritime infrastructure.

The ministers also paid special attention to the operation of border crossing points and the development of border infrastructure. Ukraine and Moldova are working on opening a new joint checkpoint and increasing border capacity.

It is expected that implementing these agreements will accelerate the movement of goods, support uninterrupted export of Ukrainian products, and ensure stable import of critical goods.

"The result of this work must be practical: more routes, faster border crossing, and more resilient logistics between Ukraine, Moldova, and the European Union", – Kalashnyk emphasized.

Development of alternative transport corridors has become especially important due to Russian attacks on Ukrainian ports, railways, and other logistics facilities. The route through Moldova and the port of Constanta can strengthen Ukrainian export resilience and reduce dependence on individual transport routes.
