Inflation in Ukraine has accelerated, but some food items have become cheaper

In July 2026, consumer prices in Ukraine increased by 0.3% compared to June. Year-on-year inflation accelerated to 7.7% after 7.2% a month earlier.  This is evidenced by the express release of the State Statistics Service of Ukraine.

Core inflation, which reflects persistent price dynamics excluding short-term fluctuations and part of administratively regulated tariffs, amounted to 0.3% for the month and 8.1% year-on-year in July.

Compared to December 2025, consumer prices rose by 6%. The average price level in January-July 2026 was 7.8% higher than in the same period last year.

Which products became cheaper

Food and non-alcoholic beverages became cheaper by an average of 0.2% in July. Egg prices fell the most - by 6%, and vegetables - by 5.9%.

By 0.6-1.3, pork, poultry meat, lard, and grain processing products also became cheaper.

At the same time, certain products continued to rise in price:

• fruits - by 1.5%;
• fish and fish products - by 1.3%;
• sunflower oil - by 1.2%;
• non-alcoholic beverages - by 1.1%;
• cheese and soft cheese - by 0.9%;
• milk - by 0.7%;
• bread, pasta, and sugar - by 0.6%.

Utilities and transport became more expensive

Prices in the group "housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels" rose by 1.6% over the month. The main reason was the increase in tariffs for water supply by 31.9% and sewerage by 29.8%. Garbage removal went up by 5.1%.

Tariffs for electricity, natural gas, hot water and heating did not change during July.

Transport became more expensive by an average of 1.3%. The cost of transport services increased by 5.2%, in particular travel by road passenger transport by 6%, and by rail by 2.7%. Fuels and lubricants, on the contrary, became cheaper by 0.1%.

Alcoholic beverages and tobacco products became more expensive by 1.5%, mainly due to the increase in tobacco prices by 1.8%. Clothing and footwear, as a result of seasonal discounts, became cheaper by 4.8%.

What became more expensive the most over the year

Year-on-year, food and non-alcoholic beverages became more expensive by 6.5%. The most noticeable price increases were for fish and fish products - by 22.4%, sunflower oil - by 21.8%, and bread and bread products - by 18.6%.

At the same time, eggs cost 25.4% less than in July last year. Fruits became cheaper by 9.5%, sugar - by 8.1%, clothing and footwear - by 5.6%.

Transport over the year became more expensive by 18.6%. Prices for fuels and lubricants increased by 28%, transport services - by 28.9%, and travel by road passenger transport - by 30.8%.

The State Statistics Service notes that the calculations do not cover the territories temporarily occupied by Russia and part of the territories where hostilities are ongoing or were ongoing. Observation of consumer prices is also not conducted in rural areas.
