Cargo terminal being expanded on the Ukrainian-Romanian border

The first phase of modernization of the cargo terminal at the international automobile checkpoint "Porubne - Siret" on the border with Romania has been completed. The project is moving to the next stage – installation of equipment for customs and border control.

During the first phase, a cement-concrete surface, drainage and wastewater treatment systems, a pavilion for the border service, a stationary radiation control system, and outdoor lighting were installed. The work carried out creates the engineering basis for further expansion of the terminal.

How the checkpoint will change

The overall modernization project includes the creation of four additional lanes for trucks entering Ukraine, the introduction of modern customs and border control technologies, as well as the establishment of an organized waiting area for transport.

After all phases are completed, the terminal will be able to serve more freight vehicles. A reduction in transport processing time and improved logistics on the Ukrainian-Romanian border are also expected.

At the same time, the completion of the first phase does not mean an immediate increase in capacity or the disappearance of queues. For full operation of the updated crossing, it is necessary to complete the equipment of the Ukrainian side and carry out the corresponding infrastructure expansion on the Romanian side.

Modernization is financed equally from the state budget of Ukraine and a European Union grant under the Connecting Europe Facility program. The project is also intended to facilitate the integration of Ukrainian transport infrastructure into the European TEN-T network.
