Samsung Electronics is developing its own humanoid robot separately from the projects of its subsidiary Rainbow Robotics. The development is already at an advanced stage, reports ZDNet citing industry sources.
According to their data, the robot created inside Samsung surpasses the developments of the main South Korean competitors in its capabilities. The company has not yet officially presented the device nor disclosed its characteristics.
Samsung's advantage is called its extensive experience in manufacturing electronics, home appliances, displays, and semiconductors. The company can also use data from its enterprises to train robots to perform production and logistics tasks.
Samsung, according to sources, independently develops actuators—mechanisms that perform the function of the robot's joints and ensure its movements. They are based on electric motor technologies previously created for the company's home appliances.
Robotics projects have been consolidated in the Robotics eXperience division, or RX, which reports directly to Samsung Electronics CEO Tae Moon Ro. The company also plans to create a special data factory at its plant in Gumi for training robots based on real production processes.
In parallel, Samsung collaborates with Rainbow Robotics, whose largest shareholder it became after increasing its stake to 35%. This company was founded by the developers of the first South Korean bipedal robot, Hubo. At the same time, Samsung's own project, as sources claim, is being implemented separately.
In the future, the corporation may both sell humanoid robots under its own brand and supply individual components—actuators, batteries, sensors, and specialized processors—to other manufacturers.
It was previously reported that Chinese manufacturers supplied 97% of the world's humanoid robots in the first half of 2026.
