Excess supply has lowered the dollar exchange rate on the interbank market and in exchange offices
On Wednesday, August 12, non-cash dollar quotes on the interbank foreign exchange market immediately after the opening of trading attempted to rise, but there were no takers at those prices. On the contrary, many sellers appeared, so quotes began to decline – slowly at first, then faster.
By the time of writing, they had dropped to 44.68–44.69 UAH on the 'bid' and 44.71 UAH on the 'offer'. It is worth noting that the decline occurred without the participation of the National Bank, which appeared on the interbank market only around 13:00. In recent days, the regulator has not been particularly active, giving exporters the opportunity to sell their foreign currency earnings at higher prices.
The euro on Ukraine's interbank foreign exchange market followed the dollar downwards on Wednesday, falling from 51.72 to 51.54 UAH on the 'bid' position. On FOREX, the euro is trading in a narrow range of 1.1532–1.1549 dollars for the second day in a row.
Cash dollar prices also began to fall. If on Tuesday afternoon wholesale exchange offices in Kyiv sold the dollar at 44.89–44.92 UAH, today they already trade at 44.82–44.84 UAH. In Vinnytsia, the dollar sells for 44.87 UAH, in Mykolaiv, Kropyvnytskyi, Khmelnytskyi and Poltava – at 44.90 UAH, in Kharkiv – at 44.91–44.92 UAH.
By 13:00, Ukrainian banks were selling the dollar at prices ranging from 44.82 UAH at Bank Lviv, up to 45.32 UAH at the Zaporizhia-based Metbank. As for the euro, the cheapest purchase is currently offered by Bank Lviv – at 51.72 UAH.
Oil prices partially corrected their rise. The popular Brent grade fell in price to $88 per barrel and currently trades in the range of $88.73–$88.90 per barrel.
On crypto exchanges, prices for major cryptocurrencies trade in a wide range without a distinct trend in either direction. On the previous evening, Bitcoin on the popular Binance exchange fell to $63,238 per coin, and Ethereum fell to $1,853.62 per coin. Currently, Bitcoin is selling for $64,130–$64,150, and Ethereum for $1,905–$1,915 per coin.
