Zelensky asked the US to sell Ukraine 10% of its Patriot missile stockpile
President Volodymyr Zelensky urged the US to sell Ukraine 10% of the American stockpile of interceptor missiles for Patriot systems. According to him, this amount would be enough to destroy all the ballistic missiles Russia uses to attack Ukraine.
In an interview with CNN, Zelensky said that Ukraine currently has only about 1% of the required number of interceptors. Transferring 5% of the American stockpile would allow to get through the winter and protect more people.
"If they sell us 5%, we will get through the winter and save lives. If they sell 10%, we will destroy all Russian ballistic missiles. I have 1%", the president said.
According to Zelensky, in 2026 Ukraine received 2.5 times fewer interceptors than in 2025. At the same time, Russia roughly doubled its monthly use of ballistic missiles. Mass attacks occur four to five times a month.
The president said he negotiates daily with allies, trying to obtain additional missiles. He did not disclose some of the agreements, noting only that Ukraine is ready to offer partners exchanges and other legal mechanisms.
The shortage of Patriot interceptors has worsened due to rising global demand. The US and Persian Gulf countries spent a significant number of such missiles while countering Iranian strikes, CNN notes.
Zelensky also said that he has not yet received final approval from Washington for the production of Patriot missiles in Ukraine under an American license. Representatives of the manufacturing companies have already visited Kyiv to discuss such a possibility, but there are no concrete agreements yet.
