Russia strikes port infrastructure in Odesa region and a train in Dnipropetrovsk region: casualties reported (Updated)
On the night of August 13, Russia attacked Odesa and Dnipropetrovsk regions. In Odesa region, a jet-powered Shahed drone hit a passenger train - according to preliminary data, the train driver and his assistant were killed, and all 340 passengers were evacuated without injuries. Port infrastructure in Izmail district and an infrastructure facility in Pavlohrad, where fires broke out, were also hit.
Izmail district military administration reported damage to port infrastructure. State Emergency Service units are working to eliminate the consequences of the strike. The extent of destruction and information about possible casualties have not been made public yet.
The Russian Ministry of Defense also claimed a night strike on the port of Reni in Odesa region. The Russian department alleges that the targets were locations of Ukrainian Naval Forces and port infrastructure. The Ukrainian side has not separately confirmed damage to the port of Reni or military facilities.

During the night attack on Odesa region, a jet-powered Shahed-type drone hit a passenger train. According to preliminary data from Ukrzaliznytsia, the train driver and his assistant were killed.
Despite the strike, the locomotive crew continued to drive the train so that passengers could safely leave the cars. All 340 passengers and train crew members were evacuated, with no injuries among them.

Ukrzaliznytsia promised to provide assistance to the families of the deceased workers. The circumstances of the attack and its consequences are still being investigated.
Also in Pavlohrad, Dnipropetrovsk region, infrastructure was damaged and a fire broke out. There are also damages and injuries in other districts of the region.
Increased attacks on port infrastructure
Russia regularly shells Odesa region ports, including Danube facilities. The intensification of attacks directly influenced decisions by foreign shipowners to stop calling at Ukrainian ports.
However, no complete suspension of Ukrainian port system operations has been officially announced. According to the Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority, port services continue to operate, restore damaged facilities and maintain infrastructure readiness.
Ukraine also strikes Russian warships and port facilities in the Black Sea and Azov Sea. Such operations are aimed, among other things, against infrastructure used by Russia for waging war.
