Kyiv has handed new peace proposals to the US, Zelenskyy called for increased pressure on Putin
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that the United States needs to be more actively involved in the peace process and increase pressure on Russia. According to him, Vladimir Putin currently has no intention of ending the war.
Zelenskyy said this in an interview with CNN. The president confirmed that Kyiv has handed over new proposals regarding the peace process, which is taking place with the participation of the administration of US President Donald Trump, but did not disclose their content.
"Putin does not want to stop this war now, and not enough pressure is being put on him", - Zelenskyy emphasized.
At the same time, he thanked Trump's team for their willingness to continue working on a peace plan. In the opinion of the Ukrainian president, greater involvement of Washington can help force Moscow to move towards a real end to the war.
Zelenskyy also rejected the possibility of handing over to Russia the part of Donbas that remains under Ukraine's control. He stressed that any agreements must include reliable security guarantees.
The president warned that without such guarantees, Russia could use a prolonged pause to rebuild its army, and then attack Ukraine again, with an additional one to two million troops.
Zelenskyy also agreed with assessments that after the war against Ukraine, Putin may try to test NATO's unity by attacking one of the smaller Alliance countries. According to him, the Russian leader seeks a quick victory, occupation, or establishment of control over another state.
