Polish economy accelerated after weak start to the year
Poland's economy grew by 3.8% year-on-year in the second quarter of 2026. The growth rate accelerated from 3.5% in the first quarter.
This is according to a flash estimate from Statistics Poland. The result meets market expectations and exceeds the second quarter of 2025, when the country's GDP increased by 3.3%.
After seasonal adjustment, the Polish economy grew by 0.9% quarter-on-quarter. The year-on-year adjusted figure was 3.7%.
Poland grew significantly faster than the European Union as a whole. According to Eurostat's preliminary data, the EU economy increased by 1.2% year-on-year and by 0.5% quarter-on-quarter in the second quarter.
Polish economists attribute the acceleration primarily to a recovery in investment, a pickup in construction and industry, the launch of large projects, and more active use of EU funds. At the same time, high energy prices and slower real wage growth may have dampened consumer spending.
The published estimate is preliminary and may be revised. The Polish statistical office plans to release detailed data on the contribution of consumption, government spending, investment, and external trade on August 31.
