Ukraine will receive new gas piston units from Finland

Finland will allocate 28.5 million euros for the purchase of power plants to restore and strengthen the Ukrainian energy system. The funds will be provided from development cooperation funds.

The total cost of the energy equipment is 46.5 million euros. Ukraine will finance independently the part of the costs not covered by Finnish support.

The customer of the power plants is the state company "Ukrnafta", and the supplier is the Finnish Wärtsilä Finland Oy. The equipment will be manufactured at the company's plant in the city of Vaasa.

In May, "Ukrnafta" and Wärtsilä signed a framework agreement for the supply of complete equipment for modern gas piston units. The new generation is to provide backup power for critically important company operations.

The surplus of generated electricity is planned to be transferred to the unified energy system for the needs of the population and business. Gas piston equipment can also be used for balancing the energy system by quickly changing generation volumes depending on demand.

Funding will be provided through the Finnish-Ukrainian Investment Fund FUIF, created to support state reconstruction projects using Finnish technologies, equipment and services.

Finland's funds will be used to pay interest and part of the principal amount of the investment loan that Ukraine will attract. The Finnish export credit agency Finnvera will provide a 100% guarantee for this loan.

Finland's Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Ville Tavio stated that the project is intended to strengthen the reliability of Ukraine's energy supply and simultaneously support Finnish technology, exports and jobs.

The number of power plants, their total capacity and delivery schedules have not been specified by the Finnish Ministry for Foreign Affairs at this time.
