Polish MiG-29s may be transferred to Ukraine in coming weeks - media

Poland and Ukraine have moved closer to an agreement on transferring Polish MiG-29 fighters to Ukraine in exchange for drones and Ukrainian technology for their use. According to Wirtualna Polska, negotiations are in the final stage, and the aircraft may be transferred within the next few weeks. The completion of the agreement has not yet been officially announced.

According to the Polish publication, Warsaw expects to receive a large number of drones of various types, as well as Ukrainian experience in their combat use. Poland is interested in technologies of unmanned systems, communication and management of them, accumulated by Ukraine during the full-scale war. These very conditions became one of the key elements of the negotiations on MiG-29s.

The fact of a possible exchange was previously confirmed by the Polish Ministry of National Defense. At the end of July, the head of the department, Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, stated that the Ukrainian side presented proposals to transfer drones to Poland over the next two years. According to him, exchanging MiG-29s for drones is a real option, although Warsaw is approaching it cautiously.

Cooperation between the countries in the field of drones has already gone beyond the negotiations on aircraft. In April, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced a joint project to create a Polish "drone armada" with the involvement of Ukrainian technologies and experience. The Polish government directly calls Ukrainian competencies in the field of unmanned systems important for the modernization of its own armed forces.

In parallel, Warsaw is discussing the possibility of another transfer to Ukraine of PAC-3 missiles for Patriot systems. There is no final decision on the new batch. The Polish side emphasizes that such deliveries depend on the assessment of its own defense needs, and Wirtualna Polska notes that even in the case of a positive decision, it is not about a large number of missiles.

Thus, the prospect of Ukraine receiving Polish MiG-29s now looks more concrete than new large deliveries of ammunition for Patriot. At the same time, information about the final stage of negotiations and the possible transfer of aircraft in the coming weeks is still based on sources from Wirtualna Polska, and not on an announced intergovernmental agreement.
