Ukraine's grain exports drop threefold below needed level

From August 1 to 12, Ukraine exported 590 thousand tons of grain - this is only about 30% of the required volume. This was stated by Minister of Agricultural Policy Taras Vysotsky.

According to him, the sharp reduction in supplies is due to the cessation of stable operation of the sea corridor at the end of July. Due to problems with shipping, Ukraine significantly lost the pace of exporting grain to foreign markets.

The sea direction remains key for Ukrainian agricultural exports, since it is through the Black Sea ports that large batches of products can be exported with the lowest logistics costs. Disruptions in its operation cannot be promptly compensated only by land routes and Danube ports.

Problems with grain exports intensified in late July amid increased Russian attacks on port and logistics infrastructure. Due to growing security risks, sea transportation became less stable, which directly affected supply volumes in August.

Current indicators are especially important for the agricultural sector at the beginning of the new season, when new crop grain enters the market. Prolonged slowdown of exports increases the volumes of products that remain inside the country and increases the load on logistics and grain storage facilities.

As a result of the 2025/2026 marketing year, Ukraine exported more than 37.46 million tons of grains and leguminous crops. Therefore, restoring stable operation of export logistics remains one of the key issues for the agricultural sector and the country's foreign exchange earnings.
