Ministry of Agrarian Policy assessed the risk of food shortage after attacks on logistics

There is no food shortage in Ukraine due to destruction of some warehouses and distribution centers by Russian strikes. Temporary supply disruptions are possible due to logistics restructuring, but balances of staple foods remain sufficient, said Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food Taras Vysotskyi.

According to him, the Ministry of Agrarian Policy weekly monitors prices for staple foods. Currently, the ministry does not record sharp price changes, particularly in Kyiv. Additional business costs for logistics restructuring are inevitable, but the ministry does not expect them to cause food prices to rise by tens of percent.

The government is simultaneously looking for reserve storage facilities to replace destroyed distribution centers. In particular, state and communal property facilities are being considered, as well as shifting part of supply to "just-in-time" logistics - without long-term storage of goods in large centers.

Vysotskyi estimates that approximately 30-40% of lost capacities can be relatively quickly relocated or restored. Fully replacing destroyed facilities in a short time is more difficult.

Earlier, Current Ukraine reported that stores "Silpo", "Fora" and THRASH! may temporarily lack certain goods after damage to four distribution centers of Fozzy Group. The company is restructuring product flows and expects to restore its usual assortment by August 24.

Since the beginning of July, more than 400 thousand square meters of warehouses and business logistics complexes have been destroyed as a result of Russian attacks in Ukraine. Despite the scale of damage, the Ministry of Agrarian Policy emphasizes that this is a logistics problem, not a food shortage in the country.
