"Spider-Man" collected over $2 billion in three weekends
The film "Spider-Man: Brand New Day" with Tom Holland surpassed the $2 billion mark at the global box office in just three weekends. The film's total gross has already exceeded $2.02 billion, making it the highest-grossing film in Sony Pictures' history.
During its third weekend, the superhero film grossed about $70 million more in the US and Canada and $118.7 million in other markets. The total box office in North America exceeded $785.8 million, and international gross approached $1.24 billion. In China alone, the picture earned about $210 million.
"Brand New Day" became the second film in history to pass the $2 billion mark that quickly. Only "Avengers: Endgame" did it faster, reaching the milestone in 11 days in 2019 and ultimately grossing about $2.8 billion worldwide.
The new "Spider-Man" also surpassed the previous installment with Tom Holland - "Spider-Man: No Way Home." The 2021 film ended its run with over $1.92 billion and was previously Sony's highest-grossing film. However, it was not released in the Chinese market.
The scale of "Brand New Day's" opening became clear in its first week. The film earned more than $1 billion worldwide in just six days - at that time, only "Avengers: Endgame" had reached that mark faster.
Thus, "Spider-Man: Brand New Day" became the eighth film in world cinema history to earn over $2 billion. As recently as early August, when the film's gross exceeded $1 billion, Variety mentioned that only seven films were in the two-billion-dollar club.
The film became the fourth solo Spider-Man movie with Tom Holland. Zendaya and Jacob Batalon returned to their roles alongside him, and the film was directed by Destin Daniel Cretton. The official Ukrainian title of the film is "Spider-Man: Brand New Day".
