Student deferment is up to six months: what is important to know ahead of September 1

Before the start of the new academic semester, students, graduate students and other education seekers should check the relevance of their data in the Unified State Electronic Database on Education. It is the information in the EDEBO that is used to confirm the right to a deferment from mobilization.

Deferment for education seekers is issued for the period of the academic semester, but no more than six months. This procedure applies to students of vocational, professional pre-higher and higher education, as well as other categories of education seekers provided by law.

The right to deferment is available to persons liable for military service who study full-time or dual education and obtain an education level higher than previously obtained. For example, this may be admission to a master's program after a bachelor's degree or to a postgraduate program after a master's degree.

Why it is important to check EDEBO

Education data is checked through state electronic registries. Therefore, an error or outdated information in EDEBO can create problems with automatic confirmation of the right to deferment.

If studies are terminated or the student switches to a form of education that does not grant the right to deferment, the corresponding basis for its preservation also disappears.

For students, graduate students and doctoral students, deferment can be processed through "Reserve+". Data exchange between the education database and the Ministry of Defense registries allows confirming the status without regular personal visits to the TCC.

Deferment can be reissued on another basis

Separate changes to the deferment issuance procedure were introduced by the government by Resolution No. 978 of July 29, 2026. If a person liable for military service who already has a deferment due to studies has another legal basis, they can submit an application for its reissuance.

The existing deferment is not terminated while the application is being considered. If the new basis is confirmed, the previous deferment will expire only after new data is entered into the registry. If reissuance is refused, the old deferment will continue until the end of the established period.

Automatic verification of information through state registries is also provided. The standard processing time is seven working days, and if additional requests to state bodies are needed, no more than 15 working days.

While an application for granting or reissuing a deferment is being considered, the person liable for military service should not be sent for a medical examination by the MMC within this procedure.
