American corporation discovered oil and gas condensate off the coast of Angola
Chevron confirmed a new discovery of oil and gas condensate on the shelf of Angola. While drilling exploratory well 105-4X, the company found over 600 meters of oil and gas condensate column, but has not yet announced the estimate of reserves in barrels.
The discovery was made in Block 0 in the Lower Congo Basin. The well encountered over 600 meters of hydrocarbons in the main Pinda reservoir, of which over 90 meters are net pay. Chevron characterizes the reservoir quality as high.
The next stage will be to assess the scale of the discovery and its commercial potential. The company is considering the possibility of tying the well back to Chevron's existing infrastructure nearby. Such an option would reduce capital expenditures and accelerate the start of future production.
"Initial results are encouraging, and additional work will help determine the full resource potential and possible development options," stated Kevin McLachlan, Chevron Vice President for Exploration.
Chevron has been operating in Angola for over 70 years
Block 0 is operated by subsidiary Chevron Cabinda Gulf Oil Company Limited. It holds 39.2% of the project. Partners are state-owned Sonangol E&P with 41%, TotalEnergies with 10%, and Azule Energy with 9.8%.
Chevron has been operating in Angola for over 70 years, and its first offshore discovery in the country occurred back in 1966. Block 0 remains one of the group's key assets in the region.
At the end of 2025, the South N'dola project began production in the same block. Its infrastructure is also tied into existing Chevron facilities, and the design capacity is about 25 thousand barrels of oil and 50 million cubic feet of gas per day.
The new discovery is part of Chevron's broader expansion in sub-Saharan Africa. The company states that its net production in the region is currently about 300 thousand barrels of oil equivalent per day. Besides Angola, Chevron is expanding exploration programs in Nigeria, Guinea-Bissau, Equatorial Guinea, and Namibia.
