Tax deadline brought exporters to the interbank market: dollar slightly cheaper
The situation on the interbank currency market on Wednesday, August 19, exactly repeats yesterday's trading. There is also a balance of supply and demand amid low activity from both buyers and sellers. The only difference is that trading is taking place in the range of 44.72-44.75 UAH (yesterday at this time trading was at 44.76-44.81 UAH).
Today is the deadline for paying corporate income tax for the first half of 2026, so among sellers there are many exporting companies that hoped until the last moment that the dollar exchange rate would rise and they would be able to sell the received foreign currency earnings at a higher price. As we can see, their hopes did not materialize. The National Bank traditionally does not appear on the interbank market in the first half of the day, limiting itself to observing what is happening.
The euro on the interbank currency market of Ukraine is trading on Wednesday in the range of 51.83-51.92 UAH on the bid side - slightly higher than yesterday's prices. On FOREX, the euro is again making attempts to rise and by the time of writing had already climbed to 1.1605 dollars.
Cash dollar prices have slightly decreased compared to yesterday. If on Tuesday afternoon wholesale exchange offices in Kyiv sold the dollar at 44.86-44.88 UAH, today they sell at 44.83-44.85 UAH. In Dnipro, the dollar is also sold today at 44.83-44.85 UAH, in Mykolaiv and Poltava at 44.90 UAH, in Odesa at 44.90-44.92 UAH. Ukrainian banks by 12:00 sell the dollar at prices from 44.82 UAH at Bank Lviv to 45.20 UAH at Zaporizhzhia Metbank. As for the euro, at the moment it can be bought cheapest at Bank Lviv for 51.87 UAH.
Oil prices continue to rise as the US-Iran standoff intensifies. The price of the most popular Brent grade reached $92.11 per barrel this morning and by the time of writing is trading in the range of $91.95-92.10 per barrel.
On crypto exchanges, prices for major cryptocurrencies are correcting after yesterday's growth. Thus, bitcoin on the most popular crypto exchange reached $65,058.8 per coin, and ethereum reached $1,929.94 per coin. Currently, bitcoin is sold at $64,400-64,415, and ethereum at $1,920-1,925 per coin.
