Rada reappointed Sybiha as Foreign Minister

The Verkhovna Rada on August 19 appointed Andriy Sybiha as Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine. 266 MPs voted for his candidacy. The result of the vote was announced by MP Yaroslav Zheleznyak.

Thus Sybiha will continue to lead the Ukrainian foreign ministry after the government reshuffle.

On July 16, during the formation of the new Cabinet of Ministers, the Verkhovna Rada dismissed Sybiha from the post of Foreign Minister along with a number of other members of the previous government. After that, the Cabinet assigned him the duties of Minister of Foreign Affairs. Kurs reported that a similar temporary decision was made at that time regarding the leadership of the Ministry of Defense.

Before the vote, Sybiha met with MPs

On the morning of August 19, MPs from parliamentary factions and groups continued meetings with candidates for the posts of Minister of Foreign Affairs and Minister of Defense - Andriy Sybiha and Yevhen Khmar.

Head of the parliamentary faction "Servant of the People" Davyd Arakhamia said that the faction met with both candidates and decided to support the personnel decisions proposed by the president.

Arakhamia reminded that the nomination of candidates for the posts of Minister of Foreign Affairs and Minister of Defense belongs to the authority of the President of Ukraine.

He called Sybiha an experienced diplomat and a team member who has long worked in the foreign policy direction. According to Arakhamia, the Foreign Minister should continue the work he was doing before the government rotation.

Andriy Sybiha headed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs before the formation of the new Cabinet in July. His current appointment ends the period of temporary performance of duties and restores his full status as minister.
