The Belgian investment company for developing countries, BIO, is investing $6 million in the Rebuild Ukraine Fund (REBUF) managed by Dragon Capital. The fund invests capital in Ukrainian companies and intends to increase its total size to $250 million.

The investment was announced by Dragon Capital. The agreement was signed in Kyiv with the participation of representatives of the governments of Ukraine and Belgium, the Belgian embassy, and BIO leadership.

BIO CEO Joris Totté noted that the investment should help Ukrainian companies access the long-term capital needed to operate, adapt, and expand during the war.

REBUF head and Dragon Capital’s head of direct investments, Andriy Nosok, said that BIO’s commitment, together with investments from other international development finance institutions, allowed the fund to hold its first closing and begin investment activities.

Where the fund will invest

Rebuild Ukraine Fund is a direct investment fund created after the start of the full-scale war to invest in real assets in Ukraine. It focuses on small, medium, and larger enterprises that continue to operate during the war and can participate in economic recovery.

Priority sectors include consumer goods and services, healthcare, pharmaceuticals, financial services related to agriculture, building materials production, retail, and technology.

The target size of REBUF is $250 million. The fund provides Ukrainian companies with capital that can be used for business development, production growth, and other long-term investments.

The first closing of REBUF included international development finance institutions such as the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, the International Finance Corporation, Norway's Norfund, Sweden's Swedfund, and BIO, as well as Dragon Capital itself.

Thus, the current signing specifies the contribution of Belgium's BIO to the Rebuild Ukraine Fund: its investment amounts to $6 million.
