Ukraine introduces new sanctions against Russian defense industry and creators of a cartoon
President Volodymyr Zelensky has enacted four decisions of the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) on new sanctions against enterprises of the Russian military-industrial complex, companies of the "Rusal" group, Russian high-ranking officials and collaborators, as well as creators and distributors of the animated film "Masha and the Bear".
This was reported by the Office of the President of Ukraine.
One of the sanction packages covers 28 citizens of Russia, 36 Russian companies, and one Chinese company. It includes enterprises that, bypassing international restrictions, supply high-precision industrial equipment, electronics, components, and raw materials to the Russian Federation.
The list also includes manufacturers and enterprises engaged in the repair of military and special equipment, developers of drones, special equipment, and software for Russian law enforcement agencies.
A separate package concerns five enterprises of the "Rusal" group and nine related Russian citizens. These include importers of alumina and aluminum producers for the needs of the Russian defense industry.
The Presidential Office notes that non-ferrous metallurgy enterprises provide the Russian defense industry with raw materials and products used in the production of military equipment, missile and artillery weapons, and military aviation. Some companies are trying to obtain the necessary raw materials bypassing sanctions.
Another NSDC decision provides for sanctions against 45 individuals and 8 legal entities. Among them are high-ranking Russian officials who justify and promote the war and occupation of Ukrainian territories, as well as individuals and companies cooperating with the occupation authorities in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine.
This package also includes former People's Deputy from the Party of Regions Yuriy Ivanyushchenko. Previously, Kurs Ukrainy wrote separately about sanctions against him and the criminal proceedings in which he is involved.
The fourth package is aimed against five Russian citizens and four organizations involved in the creation and distribution of the animated series "Masha and the Bear". The Presidential Office believes that the series spreads pro-Russian narratives disguised as children's content and poses a threat to Ukraine's national security.
In particular, the sanctions target the "Animaccord" studio, which produces the animated series, as well as its founder, general director, screenwriter, director, producer, co-author of the series, and the owner of its rights.
Ukraine plans to transfer information about the new sanction targets to international partners for further synchronization of restrictions in other jurisdictions.
