NBU has been selling over $1 billion on the interbank market for sixth consecutive week
Last week, on August 17-21, the National Bank sold $1.194 billion on the currency market. The volume of interventions has exceeded $1 billion for six weeks in a row.
This is evidenced by data from the National Bank of Ukraine on the results of currency interventions.
Compared to the previous week, currency sales increased by $93.4 million, or approximately 8.5%. In the period of August 10-14, the NBU sold $1.101 billion.
At the same time, last week the regulator did not buy currency on the market.
The series of weeks with sales exceeding $1 billion has been ongoing since mid-July. According to the NBU, intervention volumes were:
- July 13-17 - $1.074 billion;
- July 20-24 - $1.014 billion;
- July 27-31 - $1.139 billion;
- August 3-7 - $1.019 billion;
- August 10-14 - $1.101 billion;
- August 17-21 - $1.194 billion.
Thus, over these six weeks, the National Bank sold about $6.54 billion in total on the currency market.
Since the beginning of 2026, the NBU has sold $31.261 billion, while buying only $2.3 million. In fact, the regulator's operations this year are almost entirely aimed at selling foreign currency.
Currency interventions remain one of the NBU's main tools for balancing supply and demand on the interbank market under the managed exchange rate flexibility regime.
