Ukraine brought back 10 Ukrainian servicemen who were considered missing from captivity

On August 24, as part of the second phase of a regular exchange, Ukraine brought home ten servicemen who had previously been considered missing in action. The return took place through Belarus.

This was announced by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War.

Among those returned are servicemen of the Armed Forces and the National Guard of Ukraine: sergeants, soldiers and sailors. All ten defended Ukraine in the Donetsk direction.

A special feature of this phase of the exchange was that all the returned servicemen had been registered as missing in action. Two of them had had this status since 2024, and the other eight since 2025.

According to the Coordination Headquarters, the return was the result of negotiations by the working group on exchanges. The released servicemen will receive the necessary support and treatment, after which they will undergo rehabilitation.

This is the second phase of a regular prisoner-of-war exchange. During the first phase on August 19, Ukraine returned 103 servicemen, including representatives of the Armed Forces, the Navy, the Territorial Defense Forces, the National Guard, and the State Border Guard Service.
