US Deputy Ambassador to UN urges Russia and Ukraine to return to negotiating table
Deputy US Permanent Representative to the UN Dan Negrea called on Russia and Ukraine to stop strikes on civilian objects and return to the negotiating table, according to Укрінформ.
As reported by Ukrinform's own correspondent in New York, he said this at a UN Security Council meeting on Monday, dedicated to Ukraine's Independence Day.
Negrea emphasized that the United States reiterates President Donald Trump's call for an immediate ceasefire and good faith negotiations to end the war between Russia and Ukraine.
He noted that the death toll continues to rise with each new strike.
"We call on both sides to cease any strikes that harm civilian vessels or pose a threat of damage to them. It is senseless to continue shedding the blood of innocent civilians when there is no military solution to this war," Negrea said.
He called on Russia and Ukraine to "return to negotiations" and assured that they "will play any constructive role they can to facilitate negotiations between Moscow and Kyiv to achieve this outcome."
At the same time, Negrea stated that the United States remains committed to Ukraine's future as a sovereign and prosperous state.
As reported by Ukrinform, the UN Security Council convened on Ukraine's Independence Day to discuss Russian aggression.
