In Poland, Biedronka recalls a popular infant formula from sale

The Polish supermarket chain Biedronka has announced the recall of two batches of the infant milk formula NAN OPTIpro 1 by Nestlé. In one of the batches, control testing detected cereulide - a toxin related to the bacterium Bacillus cereus.

This applies to NAN OPTIpro 1 in 650 g packages with a minimum shelf life dated June 2027.

The following batches are subject to recall:

• L-53430346BA - minimum shelf life 06/2027;
• L-53440346BA - minimum shelf life 06/2027.

The batch number can be found on the bottom of the package.

According to Nestlé Polska, Polish control authorities detected cereulide in a sample from one production cycle. The company notes that the recorded concentration was below the intervention threshold set by the European Food Safety Authority. At the same time, Polish sanitary authorities decided to remove the product.

The manufacturer recalls the second batch as a precaution, as it was produced immediately after the batch in which the problem was detected.

Cereulide is a heat-resistant toxin produced by some strains of the bacterium Bacillus cereus. It can cause food poisoning, including nausea and vomiting.

Biedronka has urged customers not to give the formula from the indicated batches to children. The product can be returned to the store. Nestlé also recommends consulting a pediatrician if a child experiences symptoms after consuming the formula.

The manufacturer itself began recalling these batches in Poland on August 17, and Biedronka published a separate notice for its customers on August 24. According to Nestlé, other batches of NAN and other products of the company on the Polish market are not covered by this recall.
