Former Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba is among the candidates being considered by the authorities for the post of Ukrainian ambassador to the USA. There is currently no final decision on the new head of the diplomatic mission in Washington.

This is reported by journalists RBC-Ukraine Roman Kot and Milan Lelic with reference to sources in the government. According to them, there are several potential candidates - among the military, diplomats and politicians.

Initially, they planned to offer the post of ambassador in Washington to former Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko. According to the publication, she refused to go to the US, citing family circumstances.

Also earlier, in the context of the appointment, Deputy Head of the President's Office Pavlo Palisa was considered. One of the arguments in his favor was good personal contacts with the American side. At the same time, Palisa currently remains in his position in Kyiv, where he is mainly involved in the defense sector.

Rustem Umerov, despite rumors on social networks, was not considered for the ambassador post this time, claim RBC-Ukraine sources.

The post of head of the Ukrainian diplomatic mission in Washington has been vacant since the dismissal of Olha Stefanishyna. In the President's Office, according to the publication, they faced a personnel shortage: some possible applicants refuse to relocate due to personal circumstances, others are screened out due to political factors.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy previously said that for the work in the USA, an experienced person with good communication skills is needed, who can keep the attention of the American political and informational environment on Ukraine. In doing so, he noted that a candidacy for the post already exists.
